Get fit, stay fit at the Newport 60+ Activity Center | Community

You deserve to take care of yourself. The Newport 60+ Activity Center offers plenty of opportunities to do just that and invites people to check out their ongoing classes designed to increase strength, balance, mobility, flexibility and overall health.

Arthritis exercise, designed specifically for people with arthritis and related conditions, will help reduce pain and stiffness and help improve mobility and muscle strength. The class is led by Rose Ebel and meets on Wednesdays and Fridays, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Chair yoga is suitable for people who cannot easily get up and down from the floor. It provides a very comprehensive workout that increases flexibility and strength while incorporating both energizing and soothing breathing techniques. Michelle Annette leads this class, which meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 11 a.m. to noon.

Meditation, taught by Joseph Armenio, has its roots in Zen practice. The class meets on Tuesdays, 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

Move with Mary is an exercise class that begins with warm-ups and transitions into exercises using bands, balls and weights and can be done seated or standing. The class leader is Mary Peterson. It meets on Mondays, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Silver Sneakers Classic is a fun fitness program that will help maintain and improve cardiovascular conditioning, circulation, flexibility and muscle tone. It meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10-11 a.m., and is led by Pam Gardner.
