Lincoln YMCA Updates Activity Center Space

The Lincoln-area YMCA, 719 Wyatt Ave., sports a new look, and leaders hope the public will embrace the updates and improvements.

The facility will now offer new fitness equipment as well as a weight room for members’ use.

At an open house held on Monday, Angie Sowle, CEO of the YMCA of Springfield, said they would continue to offer programs for children and adults.

“We look forward to welcoming members and the community to this facility and are excited about the expanded opportunities we can provide to the Lincoln community,” Sowle said.

The building updates were made possible by a donation from the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

Membership in the facility will provide access to new fitness equipment, weights and the gymnasium. After the first of the year, the Y plans to offer swimming lessons at Lincoln College and add group fitness classes.

To celebrate the new building, the YMCA is offering a $0 membership fee to all who join the facility from December 13 through December 20, 2021.

The YMCA and Lincoln Memorial Hospital continue to move forward with the “Advancing the Mission” fundraising campaign with plans to build a new YMCA in the future.

Lincoln Memorial Hospital president and CEO and YMCA board member Dolan Dalpoas said the updates will serve multiple purposes.

“This facility means so much to this community. It’s an ideal space for health and fitness, but it’s also a space where families can bond, children grow, and neighbors can connect,” Dalpoas said.

Fitness equipment is now available to Lincoln area YMCA members.

Membership in the Lincoln YMCA costs families $25 per month with a $50 attendance fee, for individual adults the fee is $15 per month with a $50 attendance fee and for youth the cost is $10 per month with a participation fee of $25. Membership fees will be waived for anyone joining this week between December 13-17.
