SAN MARCOS, TX – the San Marcos Activity Center will be closed indefinitely due to water damage. Officials were notified of the water damage around 3am this morning after a resident saw water pouring from the building.
The San Marcos Fire Department was able to shut off the water to the building.
Flooding at the activity center appears to be the result of a 3″ poly pipe that disconnected from its coupler, causing several inches of water to cover the entire facility, according to the city of San Marcos The city’s insurance company has been notified and is assessing the damage and providing assistance where possible.
Current memberships will be suspended and automatic payments will be suspended during this time, according to the city. Guests with items remaining in their lockers are asked to contact the Activity Center for assistance in retrieving their belongings.
Activity Center staff are working to identify alternative recreational options and meeting spaces to provide to the community.

According to the city, the center was previously to be used as a polling place for the upcoming elections on Tuesday, November 2. Due to water damage, the polling location will be moved to the lobby of the San Marcos Public Library, 625 E Hopkins Street. The polling station inside the library lobby will be open on election day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
