Casino Night fundraiser for Greater Palm Bay Senior Activity Center scheduled for March 12 | News

PALM BAY – The Greater Palm Bay Senior Activity Center, located at 1275 Culver Dr. NE, will host a “Casino Night” fundraiser on Saturday, March 12, from 5-9 p.m. to benefit the center.

“We hope the community will come together and help us raise funds for our senior center. We are a non-profit organization,” said Sylvia Fels, vice president of the Greater Palm Bay Senior Activity Center. “…everything we raise stays right in our senior center.”

The event will feature casino-style games, some of which include Texas Hold ‘Em Poker, poker, blackjack, roulette and craps. Ms. Fels noted in particular that a Texas Hold ‘Em Poker tournament was to take place.

There will also be a silent auction as well as a “Las Vegas Costume Contest” with prizes awarded for the best, funniest and most creative costume.

“We’re going to have a great photo booth where people can have their picture taken or we’ll email it to them or get it to them somehow so they can remember when they were here,” Ms. Fels said. “We have a game called a drawstring where they can win $300 instantly.”

While the evening is obviously designed for those in attendance to enjoy themselves, this is extremely important for a facility that is extremely important to the community, as Ms. Fels pointed out.

“We are the only facility here in Palm Bay and we are a very active senior center. We are not a retirement home, we are not an assisted living facility,” Ms Fels said. “We are active. We have over 50 activities, card games, exercises, Buncos, we have a wonderful pool room with four tables. This is very important, especially in this time of COVID and everything else that is hitting us that seems to be preventing older people from falling into some form of depression. We occupy them. They make lasting friends.

Admission is $15 and includes game chips, snacks, and soft drinks. Event patrons can also purchase more tokens if they wish. There will also be free snacks and drinks at the event.

Casino Night is open to everyone aged 21 and over.

Tickets can be purchased at the reception of the senior activity center at no additional cost in cash (the organizers add that there is an ATM on site). Tickets can also be purchased, with an added convenience fee, at
