City of Tacoma to activate Lighthouse Activity Center as warm-up center – The Suburban Times

City of Tacoma announcement.

In response to cold weather forecasts expected over the next several days, the City of Tacoma is activating the Lighthouse Activity Center (5016 A St, Tacoma, WA 98408) to serve as a temporary warming center from noon on Sunday, December 26 until to Sunday, January 2.

The City partners with the Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI) to provide 24-hour services during the operating period.

Additionally, the City is providing funding to Brotherhood RISE, located on the Hilltop, which informed the City today that they are activating a warming center from Sunday, December 26 through Friday, December 31. They will serve 10 to 12 people or families, with interior sleeping and parking spaces.

The Warming Centers are a direct response to the need for additional shelter during the continued impacts of COVID-19. Currently, shelters must reduce their normal capacity to accommodate social distancing and are unable to meet typical shelter needs in inclement weather. Community centers are an important resource for community emergency response and we appreciate LIHI’s support in meeting the needs of our community. Additional information on warming centers and shelters is available on our Web page.
